Serving our Neighbors!
A city on a hill cannot be hidden, and the light of God here on East Colfax is shining! Thanksgiving, at Restoration Outreach Programs (ROP), has everything to do with service to Christ, our Heavenly Father and King.
Since October, ROP has been spreading the word to our fellow members in the body of Christ, and the week before Thanksgiving, His body showed up! With smiles and excitement, over 200 volunteers from more than 6 churches partnered with ROP and Restoration Worship Center, our church, for 3 different outreaches.
Roughly 700+ lives were touched by Christians willing to share God’s love by serving “the least of these, my brethren!”
The Thursday before Thanksgiving, Prodigal Gatherings had its annual Prodigal Family Thanksgiving dinner – a sit down meal with parents, teens, kids, volunteers, and staff, passing around bowls of food, sharing about our lives, praying, sharing God’s word, and laughing together. Several individuals and groups including POIMA, Eastern Hills Community Church, and Calvary South Denver, became living testaments to Christ’s love. Some came for the first time, some are so addicted, they returned again for the sixth year! Talk about Prodigal Family sharing the holidays!
The Saturday before Thanksgiving, Heart to Hand’s Food Bank went turbo! ROP’s annual Thanksgiving Food Box Outreach provides the makings for a complete holiday meal to families with kitchens to prepare a feast at home with their loved ones. God’s servants, 130 strong, showed up from Denver United Church, Denver Church, Bloom Church and Discovery Church sharing laughter, prayer, and compassion to more than 300 families. Our neighborhood families got to pick their food, get a gift card to buy a turkey from King Soopers, and feel the hands of Christ through our faithful volunteers!
The following Sunday, Restoration Worship Center hosted a cooked dinner for our church and neighborhood right after our out- door service.
Foothills Community Church partnered with us sending 50 servants and enough food to feed more than 300 people! It was proof once more that Christ’s kingdom is not built of brick and wood, but of those that seek to serve Him by following His word and His example.
Of course, many of you and your churches have contributed to the hope and healing that is shared through ROP on East Colfax. These events are a success because we as a body are willing to share food, finances, clothing, and more, because we know God’s heart for the poor and broken living in this world.
We at ROP and RWC thank God for all those who partner with us in sharing God’s love with the “least of these”. We pray that each would be blessed as they seek to bless others.
